Jesus is Alef-Tav!

Wow! This is shouting terriortory, my friends!

When studying Biblical Hebrew, I saw, noticed, and was taught that when the direct object marker את (Alef-Tav) was in a scripture (not translated in the script) that it pointed to the object doing the action, whomever it was.

In this verse the direct-object is God.

Gen 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

In Hebrew it is written as such (with translation), Gen 1:1  בראשׁיתH7225(In the beginning) בראH1254(Created)אלהיםH430(God) אתH853(Alef-Tav, not translated in the verse, but the direct-object marker pointing to the One doing the creating) השׁמיםH8064(the heavens) ואתH853(and‘joining to the direct-object’) הארץ׃H776(the earth).

In the book of Revelation Jesus gave us some exciting news! Not only does it point to God, but to a particular member of the godhead.

Look with me at this scripture,Rev 1:8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letter of the Greek alphabet. Since the New Testament was written in Greek, it is translated this way. But Jesus in His native tongue would have been talking to John in Hebrew. So before being translated into Greek, it would have said “I Am Alef Tav!”

Oh praise the Lord! Jesus, The Son, the One who did the creating. He is the One who the Father so loved that He gave Him to be our redeemer! He is the bright and morning star, the Prince of peace.

My friends, realizing this allows us to get really excited about the places where the direct object points to our Savior! Jesus is our Alef-Tav, the first and last, and the author and finisher of our faith.
