Grace is Higher than the Law

A lot of times when we think of pleasing God, we put ourselves under the “Law” or the 10 commandments. In doing so, we think we can please God with our efforts or works.

Now, should we obey or pay reverence to the Law of the 10 commandments?

Well, the short answer is, “Yes”. But Jesus said we can fulfill all of the commandments in this…loving and serving The Lord our God with all of our being. Also, loving our neighbor, as our self. See – Matthew 22:36-40.

But it’s how we go about it that makes us lean on our own efforts. Or on God’s supreme sacrifice for mankind’s sins, His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Gal 3:17-29 (AMP) This is what I mean: the Law, which came into existence four hundred and thirty years later [after the covenant concerning the coming Messiah], does not and cannot invalidate the covenant previously established by God, so as to abolish the promise. [Exo 12:40]
Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance [of what was promised] is based on [observing] the Law [as these false teachers claim], it is no longer based on a promise; however, God granted it to Abraham [as a gift] by virtue of His promise.
[Abraham believed God and it was accounted to Him for righteousness. Just like today, our belief in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, allows us to be accounted as and made righteous in His sight.]
Gal 3:19 Why, then, the Law [what was its purpose]? It was added [after the promise to Abraham, to reveal to people their guilt] because of transgressions [that is, to make people conscious of the sinfulness of sin], and [the Law] was ordained through angels and delivered to Israel by the hand of a mediator [Moses, the mediator between God and Israel, to be in effect] until the Seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
Gal 3:20 Now the mediator or go-between [in a transaction] is not [needed] for just one party; whereas God is only one [and was the only One giving the promise to Abraham, but the Law was a contract between two, God and Israel; its validity depended on both].
Gal 3:21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a system of law had been given which could impart life, then righteousness (right standing with God) would actually have been based on law.

Gal 3:22 But the Scripture has imprisoned everyone [everything–the entire world] under sin, so that [the inheritance, the blessing of salvation] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe [in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s precious Son].

(John 1:16-17 AMP For out of His fullness [the superabundance of His grace and truth] we have all received grace upon grace [spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing, favor upon favor, and gift heaped upon gift].
John 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses, but grace [the unearned, undeserved favor of God] and truth came through Jesus Christ.) 🙂

Gal 3:23 Now before faith came, we were kept in custody under the Law, [perpetually] imprisoned [in preparation] for the faith that was destined to be revealed,
Gal 3:24 with the result that the Law has become our tutor and our disciplinarian to guide us to Christ,
[The Law’s purpose was to show us our need of a Savior and to point us to Jesus.] so that we may be justified [that is, declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty, and placed in right standing with God] by faith.
Gal 3:25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under [the control and authority of] a tutor and disciplinarian,
[which is the Law].
Gal 3:26 For you [who are born-again have been reborn from above–spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified and] are all children of God [set apart for His purpose with full rights and privileges] through faith in Christ Jesus.

(2Cor 5:17-18 AMP) Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].
2Co 5:18 But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him],)

Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union with the Christ, the Anointed] have clothed yourselves with Christ [that is, you have taken on His characteristics and values].
Gal 3:28 There is [now no distinction in regard to salvation] neither Jew nor Greek
[there is No separate races in God’s eyes. He loves each and everyone of us equally.], there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you [who believe] are all one in Christ Jesus [no one can claim a spiritual superiority]. [Rom 3:22; 1Co 12:13]
Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Christ [if you are in Him], then you are Abraham’s descendants, and [spiritual] heirs according to [God’s] promise.

My friends, this is shouting territory! Our salvation is no longer wrapped up in all the things we can or cannot do. Instead, it is all about Jesus and what He has done for us. When we accept Him and the price He paid for us as payment in full for our sins. Then the Law and condemnation no longer have a right to hold us in a strangle-hold. We no longer need to feel like we have to do some kind of penitence, to please God or attain salvation.

We are no longer confined to our ability to do right at all times, on our own. Instead, we now have peace with God and we receive His righteousness. This is in exchange for our tattered and torn resemblance of what we thought was righteous, holy, and pleasing to God. Now we can walk in His Grace and His righteousness. Oh hallelujah!
