2Cor 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
What does this mean?
(Teaching follows)
Well, to put it in perspective. The previous verse gives us some great insight. It says in, 2Cor 5:6  Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
Our confidence is not founded on or in, what we see with our physical eyes. Instead, it is founded on and in, the Word of God. We know our Savior Jesus Christ arose from the dead on the 3rd day. Not because we were present and witnessed the event, ourselves. But because others were eye-witnesses to the event.
Then they told everyone around them and it was documented to be true. He appeared first to Mary in the garden. (Please note: Jesus never put women down or made them subservient to Him.) Instead, He made for sure that He took the time to appear to a woman first, after His resurrection. In doing so, Jesus elevated women to a place of honor. This story is told in Mark 16.
Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Mark 16:10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
Jesus knew, if He told Mary about Himself and His resurrection from the dead. There would be no keeping her quite. She would most definitely tell everyone else, she had seen the Lord! Especially, His disciples who were still weeping.
Next, He appeared to the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus.
Luke 24:13-19 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs (about seven and a half miles from Jerusalem.)
Luk 24:14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luk 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
Luk 24:16 But their eyes were holden (were held back) that they should not know him.
Luk 24:17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
Luk 24:18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
Luk 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? [Jesus makes me laugh here. What things have happened? You know, like He didn’t know what haqppened to Himself. But actually Jesus gave them an opportunity to tell Him what they thought and heard of the situation.] And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Just a little bit further down the road, Jesus began expounding the Old Testament scriptures concerning Himself. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Wow! It would have been awesome to hear Jesus teaching through the OT (Old Testament) concerning the prophecies about Himself.
As the day begin to fade towards the night, Jesus went into their house and sat down to break bread with them. Here, He revealed Himself to them.
Luke 24:30-32 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Luk 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
Luk 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
After this Jesus appeared to the 11 disciples who were gathered at Jerusalem, Luke 24:34-49. Then many more people after this including more than 500. The Apostle Paul, preaching the those at Corinth told the Corinthians about Jesus showing Himself to “the more than 500.” 1Co 15:6Â Â After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
After this, He went back up into heaven to sit down at the Fathers right hand. However, He was not through showing Himself to others, yet. He even showed Himself, as the resurrected Lord to the Apostle Paul and He believed and was converted to the gospel of truth concerning Jesus Christ, 1Cor 15:8-11.
But my friends, we are truly blessed today! We may not see Him with our physical eyes, like these we just discussed. But we have the words of Jesus which He spoke to the disciple Thomas (one of the original 12 disciples. Because he wasn’t present the first time Jesus appeared to them and Thomas said this in the book of John.)
John 20:24-25Â But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
Joh 20:25Â Â The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Now look what happened 8 days later.
John 20:26-29 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Joh 20:27  Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Joh 20:28Â Â And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Joh 20:29  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
My friends, unless Jesus appeared to you and showed Himself as the risen Lord and Beloved Son of God. (If He did then you surely have some lost people to show Jesus too.)
Otherwise, you are like the rest of us who by “Faith” have believed. Jesus said, “We are blessed because we believe, even though we haven’t seen Him physically, with our own eyes. Yet, we still believe.” The beautiful gospel message of truth, concerning our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Oh praise His holy name!
My friends, we are truly, walking by faith and not by sight!
If you want to share your testimony with us concerning salvation, we would love to hear and share it with others. Be blessed and have a wonderful day!
