There are popular songs, lessons, poems, and sermons which talk about God giving and taking away. Now if you believe this way, it’s OK…at the moment. 🙂
But I challenge you to pray and keep an open mind while reading this short lesson. Ask God to lead you to the truth, even if it is different then what you have always believed. Now, I know that’s hard. But, continuing to believe this way will keep you from walking in faith, like God desires for you to walk in.
Why? Simply, if you don’t know if God wants to give you something good. Or if situations change for the worse, if it is Him who is now taking it away from you. Then it’s hard to pray…believing that you receive.
Job was even slightly confused when things started going really wrong in his life. But he didn’t blame God and this is what he did and said…Job 1:20-21 (GW) Job stood up, tore his robe in grief, and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother, and naked I will return. The LORD has given, and the LORD has taken away! May the name of the LORD be praised.”
Oh wow! What dedication to the Lord that Job just showed here in this verse. But if he had only realized there was a devil, an adversary who wanted to destroy everything he held dear in his life. One who even told God, I can make him turn against You, if you just take Your hand of protection away from him.
Then he might have said, “Blessed be the name of The Lord who gives. I curse the thief who is stealing from me now.”
Ay any rate, Thank You Jesus for setting this straight in John’s gospel. In John 10:10 MKJV (with Jesus speaking) it says, The thief (the devil our adversary) does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
My friends, The Lord gives and gives and gives abundantly. He is not the one who takes from you, but He will always be there when things start to go wrong. So that you can reach out to Him and be safe.
