Surround us with Your Shield of Favor!

Psalm 5:11-12 (AMP) But let all who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice, Let them ever sing for joy; Because You cover and shelter them, Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.

Psa 5:12  For You, O LORD, bless the righteous man [the one who is in right standing with You]; You surround him with favor as with a shield.

This is the ending of a psalm by King David. It is a truly personal psalm, which was prayed and/or sung in the morning time. We can see in this prayer to the Lord, the many uses of the word “My”, making it very personal.

The first 3 verses are as follows…Psa 5:1-3 (AMP) Listen to my words, O LORD, Consider my groaning and sighing.

Psa 5:2  Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray.

Psa 5:3  In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will prepare [a prayer and a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].

As the psalmist prayed this psalm, we can see his relationship with the LORD. In verse 3 he states, O LORD, You will hear my voice. Yes, we know he is telling the LORD what to expect (his voice of prayer in the morning).

But there is another aspect to it from the original language (Hebrew). The word is pronounced (Sh-MAh) – Hear: To hear as well as to respond to what is heard.

King David had a relationship with the LORD, which gave him the confidence to say, “I will pray and I know You will listen and respond to my voice.” This is the reason he could say, “I will wait and listen for You to speak to my heart.)

My friends, when we pray with this type of confidence. We can rest assured, God hears our prayers and He is just waiting on us to listen to what He speaks into our hearts. Take time to listen! Prayer is a two-way street. We pray and God answers! Oh, hallelujah! He always hears us when we pray in accordance with His Word.

This is why we can speak and know, You (LORD) surround him (me) with favor as with a shield. This type of “Shield” is a large shield, which is usually carried by someone else.

Wow! That’s great news! I am so glad, I don’t have to try and carry around my own shield of favor! Instead, the unnamed Servant, in the New Testament, who is the Holy Spirit, surrounds me with the LORD’s shield of favor, everywhere I go! Thank You LORD God, for surrounding Your children (me) with a shield of favor, in Jesus name, Amen and Amen!
