Where is Jesus, When I Need Him the Most? Part 1

Where is Jesus when I need Him? Wow! This is a loaded question and it is usually the heart-cry from a person in dire straits. Typically, they are already facing something ominous. Or they have recently faced something, which has gone awry or is about to go awry. Still, even more than this – is the feeling that it’s beyond the person’s ability to control.

Then in response to the situation. They cry out, “Jesus, where are You? I need You now more than ever in my life!” “Help me, Lord!” (Then, with muffled words softly spoken under their breath; their voice slightly cracking; eyes welling up as their feelings become tears and occasionally trickle down their face; these words seem to follow.) “If You are there and if You really care about me?”

Oh my goodness, my heart goes out to the person in this situation. But take heart my friends, and have no fear! For He is really there (right here with you); and “Yes” He really cares about you.

Let’s take a look at something that you may have already heard, read, or seen at this point in your life. It is the poem “Footprints in the Sand.” This poem describes a dream where the person sees the footprints of our precious Lord walking beside them in the sand, during their life. But when things got tough, they only saw one set of footprints.

So, they asked the Lord, “Why, during the tough times of my life, did You leave me? Because looking back, I can clearly see there was only one set of footprints in the sand?”

Then His response was so precious and ‘spot-on’ with His Word. For He said, “I did not leave you during those times. Instead, I picked you up and carried you through the tough times in your life.” … [*If you would like to hear a reading of the poem, Click this link, “Footprints in the Sand” ]

The Bible beautifully states or restates this promise in 6 different verses. Here is one of them when the Lord, was speaking to Joshua. Jos 1:5 (CSB) … No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or abandon you.

So, if you could hear this promise from our Lord today. It would be something like this, (your name inserted here) Just as I was with Moses, Joshua, Daniel, Isaiah, Peter, Paul, and others, I am with you. I will never leave you or abandon you.

Oh hallelujah! My friends, this is great news for all of us.

Because when a person cries out to the Lord, from a moment of great distress in their life. It is beyond any doubt, straight from the person’s heart.

Correspondingly, we can take courage in knowing that no matter how hopeless the situation appears. Even if it feels like, for each step we take forward, it seems like we also take two – backwards.

It will help us to remember God’s promises, which we are looking at in this post. But more importantly, these promises are from His Word, The Bible.

For when we consider that our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is always with us. That He NEVER leaves us! Then we can stand on this “Solid Rock” of truth and put our faith into practice while standing on His Word.

This will also, jog our memory during the bad or troublesome times in our lives. So, we can remember where Jesus is (right beside us), and what He wants to do in our life (daily – be with us and bless us immensely). My friends, when we do this, it becomes the living Word of truth being displayed in our life, which we can hang our hats on it, (so to speak).

To be continued…

Larry Atkerson Ministries
Larry Atkerson Sr. was born-again at a young age. He grew up in rural southeastern Oklahoma, then in high school, his family moved to Tulsa, Ok. During this time he met the young lady who would become his wife, Lisa. They got married when they were still in their teen years. Obviously, getting married at this age created some very interesting times as they both grew up and matured together. However, they have stayed true to their vows, to each other, and have basically grown up with their 3 wonderful children. Larry Atkerson Sr. and Lisa Atkerson both have received training in ministry at "Rhema Bible Training Center" and "School of the Local Church"/"Grace School of Ministry" in Broken Arrow, and Tulsa, Ok. respectively. While attending "School of the Local Church", he received his first taste of the original languages of the Bible, in a course called "Beginning Biblical Greek". Since that time he has also received training in "Biblical Hebrew", with a university based in Israel. "eTeacher". Larry Atkerson Sr. has worked/volunteered in just about every position a church or ministry can have. In doing so, he has filled many different roles ranging from door-greeter to Sunday-School teacher, and children’s church worker to counselor. He has also served in the pastoral positions of children’s, youth, and adult ministries. He has worked and been involved in hospital/visitation ministries where he has seen the power of God change people’s lives. He delights in going on short-term mission trips! All the while, seeing the love of God with applied wisdom - transform people and their lives forever. Larry Atkerson Sr. teaches a weekly bible study class starting just after spring break each year and continuing until right before Thanksgiving. In the class, he delves into the wonderful-exciting-mysteries and simplicity of the Word of God.
