The Peace that Passes All Understanding!

Here is a great scripture to stand on when everything around you is being shaken and is as unstable as sinking sand. Php 4:7 (KJV) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Uplifting Teaching follows…

You may say, “That scripture sounds nice and all. But how do I get this in my life, in my heart, and down deep in the portals of my mind?”

“How do I shut off my mind when my bills are coming due and I don’t have a natural source of income, in the form of a job at the moment?”

“How do I walk in peace when it seems like, (pardon the phrase, please) All hell is broken loose against me?”

Well, the answer is found in the scriptural context of where this verse comes from. Let’s look at it in the (AMP) now.

Philippians 4:4-8 AMP
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! [5] Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near. [6] Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.

[7] And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. [8] Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].

When we read the Bible, we can see God’s hand of protection on the children of Israel, when they marched out onto the battlefield. We can see this, in a lot of the successful battle stories found in the Old Testament. Before they marched out for war, they would send “Praiser’s” out in front of the army. When they gave God praises as they were marching out to war, He would show up and fight for and with them.

No wonder, this beautiful scriptural setting starts off with, vs 4. Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice!

If we want God to have the same place of preeminence in our life. We need to allow our hearts and minds to change its focus. From everything we need, to everything He can and will provide for us, when we trust Him.

By faith, with our spiritual eyes (so to speak) we see Him already meeting our needs. My friends, begin to sing praises to the Lord. Put Him and His provision out in front of your battles, by your praise and worship to Him. Not only does the scripture say in verse 4 to “Rejoice in the Lord.” But it ends with, “Again I say rejoice.” This double emphasizes where our hearts and minds should be, even in the middle of a trying circumstance.

Obviously, this doesn’t tell us to ignore the problem at hand. Especially, since it is very real in our life. But if we want to have the victory, if we want to keep our peace and not let our minds live in the palace of “What ifs”. Then we must allow God, with His blessings and promises, to be out front in and have the place of preeminence in our situation.

*My friends, put God in remembrance of His Word! He loves it! He wants nothing more but to meet your need. Especially, when we ask according to what He has ALREADY promised and then we stand on it.* [7] And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

Oh hallelujah! Jesus is waiting! He is more than capable to meet all of our needs. Think on the things listed in vs. 8. Then allow His provision, His peace, His love, and His reassurance to take first place in your heart and mind. 🙂

Larry Atkerson Sr. was born-again at a young age. He grew up in rural southeastern Oklahoma, then in high school, his family moved to Tulsa, Ok. During this time he met the young lady who would become his wife, Lisa. They got married when they were still in their teen years. Obviously, getting married at this age created some very interesting times as they both grew up and matured together. However, they have stayed true to their vows, to each other, and have basically grown up with their 3 wonderful children. Larry Atkerson Sr. and Lisa Atkerson both have received training in ministry at "Rhema Bible Training Center" and "School of the Local Church"/"Grace School of Ministry" in Broken Arrow, and Tulsa, Ok. respectively. While attending "School of the Local Church", he received his first taste of the original languages of the Bible, in a course called "Beginning Biblical Greek". Since that time he has also received training in "Biblical Hebrew", with a university based in Israel. "eTeacher". Larry Atkerson Sr. has worked/volunteered in just about every position a church or ministry can have. In doing so, he has filled many different roles ranging from door-greeter to Sunday-School teacher, and children’s church worker to counselor. He has also served in the pastoral positions of children’s, youth, and adult ministries. He has worked and been involved in hospital/visitation ministries where he has seen the power of God change people’s lives. He delights in going on short-term mission trips! All the while, seeing the love of God with applied wisdom - transform people and their lives forever. Larry Atkerson Sr. teaches a weekly bible study class starting just after spring break each year and continuing until right before Thanksgiving. In the class, he delves into the wonderful-exciting-mysteries and simplicity of the Word of God.
