2Timothy 1:7 (MKJV) For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
If there was ever a time we needed to be reminded of this promise from the Lord, it is now! There are several things which try and demand our attention today and it’s all guided by the “spirit of fear“.
We see very distressing things in the news daily. Wars and rumors of wars; viruses (especially the one they talk about continuously). People dying, getting sick, starving, and having their freedoms taken away. When these things start getting close to home. They can start adding up on a normal person’s psyche and if it’s all we dwell on, it will eventually overpower us.
We must turn our focus towards the Word of God for comfort, peace, health, and healing. There are so many promises found within the powerful, beautiful pages of “#TheGoodBook“. That it can help us to see things better, when we start off our day with it and in prayer before the #Lord, #JesusChrist.
Let’s take a short look at the 3 things mentioned in vs. 7. Which is given to us by God and see (how when applied properly) they can brighten up and strengthen us even on our worst day.
First off, the Greek word used for “Power” in vs. 7 is the word, [Strong’s G1411 δύναμις – dunamis, pronounced…doo’-nam-is.] It is the word used specifically for “miraculous power” in the New Testament. This is where we get the English word, “dynamite“.
Thayer’s Definition:
1) strength power, ability
1a) inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth
1b) power for performing miracles
1c) moral power and excellence of soul
1d) the power and influence which belong to riches and wealth
1e) power and resources arising from numbers
1f) power consisting in or resting upon armies, forces, hosts
Oh Praise the Lord, for His dunamis power, which He gives to us. So, we can overpower the “spirit of fear”!
Next, in our list of things given to us is “Love“. This is not the simple kind of love we think of, when we say we love someone, because they loved us back. No! The word in the Greek for that type of love is, “Philo” a friendship or brotherly love.
The “Love” mentioned here is the greatest love a person can be loved with. It is, [Strong’s G26 ἀγάπη – agapē, pronounced…ag-ah’-pay or agah-pay.]
This is the “God-kind” of love! It’s a love that says, “I love you and will show you love, even if you don’t return love back to me“. So, He says here in vs.7, I am giving you a love that no one can take away.
Finally, the third thing He gives us here is “A sound mind.” Oh my goodness, gracious, my friends. Having a sound mind in times like these is a precious thing to have. To be able to discern, know, and understand what is going on without it putting a hole in your boat, (so to speak) is priceless.
We can perceive if something is from God or Satan from the accompanying spirit surrounding it. Currently, there is a lot of fear based situations going on and a lot of it has to do with the virus.
We know this is not from God because of the company it keeps, a.k.a. the spirit of fear. In today’s times, we must be vigilant in what we do; where we go; who we listen to, and what path we take when we have a choice to make.
One thing we have confidence in and that is God and His Word. We can run to Him and use the tools He has given us to overcome fear and its tactics.
Pray this prayer over yourself, your family, city, village, state, country, providence and especially your homes and the places you work.
Father God, I thank You that You have given me (us) power over this spirit of fear. We bind it now from our lives and in everything we do. We cast it back to the pits of hell from whence it came, in Jesus name. Lord, You have given us miraculous power, dunamis power to overcome the enemy. We command this lying spirit of fear to be rendered useless against us, in Your name.
Thank You, Lord for You love towards me and my family, our city and our nation. Thank You for the price You paid for our salvation, deliverance, health, healing, and provision. Thank You for Your unmerited favor surrounding me (us) like a shield and for comforting us in the middle of the storm.
Because of You and Your blessings on me (us), I (we) have a sound mind. We think and plan correctly in the face of any and all obstacles, which we encounter. You are an awesome God and worthy to be praised. Thank You, Lord, You are already working all things for our good and have already provided a way of escape for us. We thank You, for peace, the peace which gives us sweet sleep in Your presence. In Your mighty name Jesus, we pray, Amen and Amen.
