Jesus said, “The Hour has Come…”

John 16:31-33 (MKJV) Jesus answered them, (the disciples) Do you now believe?

Joh 16:32  Behold, the hour comes, yea, has now come, that you will be scattered, each man to his own things, and you will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

Joh 16:33  I have spoken these things to you so that you might have peace in Me. In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.

In these verses, we see Jesus being “The giver of peace” to the disciples, just prior to Him being tried and going to the cross for our sins.

Jesus knew the time was near (vs 32, the hour comes) for Him to fulfill His earthly ministry, as the Son of Man / Son of God, here on the earth. He was about to be betrayed, falsely accused, and finally give His life as a ramson for our sins. He knew and had faith in the Father that He would give Him the power to be raised from the dead on the 3rd day.

So, before He went through the most challenging time in His earthly ministry. He took the time to encourage and pray for His disciples.

In verse 33 He says, I have spoken these things to you so that you might have peace in Me. [Why did they need the Messiah’s peace? Because they were about to face some very challenging times, as well.] In the world you shall have tribulation (Pressure, like what a woman in childbirth experiences. Especially, with all the things that will come against you), but be of good cheer. [“Good cheer” is the Greek word is θαρσέω / tharseō, pronounced thar-seh’-o. It means to be of good cheer, have courage, comfort, and to be confident.]

How can He tell them to be encouraged and to have confidence, in spite of the tribulations they are going to face?

Well, my friends, the secret and power of His words are contained within the last statement in this verse, “I have overcome the world.”

Jesus lived by example! He is God the Father’s, representation of Himself to all of us. Jesus said, “I have overcome the world.” The word Overcome is the Greek word that means, to conquer, overcome, prevail, and get the victory.

Oh hallelujah! Jesus has conquered all including death, hell, and the grave! He took stripes on His back for our health and healing. His blood was poured out for us. So, all who accepted Him would have their sins washed away and have eternal life.

No matter what you are facing today! Jesus has already gone before you and made “A way” where there seemed to be “No way”! He is “The Way-Maker!”

The “Hour has come”, even though it is a different hour than what Jesus was facing at the time. But because of what He has done for us when we look to Him and His Word. We can now be of “Good Cheer” in spite of all the things which may come against us.

Indeed, “The hour has come” to remember all that the Son has done for us. In Him, we have the victory!
